Skin of pure gold and stories untold; Cleopatra awakens the original diva in a one-woman, interactive performance in this retelling of Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra. Written and starring San Diego Critics Circle Award winning actor Joy Yvonne Jones as the woman who would not be triumphed over.

JOY YVONNE JONES she/her (playwright and performer) Houston native, Veteran's wife, and mother of two, Joy Yvonne Jones is an accredited actor, poet, playwright, model, and entrepreneur, who embodies revolutionary art with every project she is a part of. 

Upon graduating from the University of Minnesota in the Guthrie Theatre BFA Actor Training Program, she has graced film and stage across the country, most notably receiving the San Diego Critics Circle Craig Noel Award for Outstanding Featured Performance in a Play for her performance of Saartjie Baartman in Voyeurs de Venus at Moxie Theatre. 

Her stage credits include Caitlin in Ferryman (New Village Arts), France in Mud Row (Cygnet Theatre), Cherise Howard in Flex (Actors Theatre of Louisville), Jane in Pride and Prejudice (Cygnet Theatre), Cleopatra in Antony and Cleopatra (New Match Collective), Lady Macbeth in Macbeth (Texas Shakespeare Festival). 

In 2020, she wrote and starred in the play Ode to My Mothers, which was featured in the Old Globe Theatre's Juneteenth Celebration and in the SD Black Artist Collective's Black Arts Festival in 2024. This poignant and provocative piece follows the story of a young African-American woman on her self-awakening journey through the lens of her ancestral heritage. Joy also wrote the book for Get on Board, a protest musical previously performed at La Jolla Playhouse's WOW fest (April 2021) and UCSD Epstein Amphitheatre (Juneteenth 2023). 

Joy is a founding member and former President of San Diego Black Artists Collective. She served as Associate Artistic Director of New Village Arts in Carlsbad. 

She is currently working on the revolution of art at the speed of inspiration with the creation of her One Woman Show: Cleopatra.

ANDRÉA AGOSTO (they/she) is an Afro Puerto Rican theatre artist, educator, director, playwright, and voice over actor. An award winning filmmaker (Kansas City Film Fest) and actor (International Model & Talent Association), Andréa loves telling stories. They have written Codewswitchin’ is Conscious (Powers New Voices Festival) and QuickChange (Black Lady Showcase 2022). Recently, they were a participant for 2024 Classical Directing Fellowship at The Old Globe. They’ve directed Notes on Killing Seven Oversight Management and Economic Stability Board Members (MOXIE Theatre), Associate Directed Comedy of Errors (The Old Globe), Assistant Directed Henry V (The Old Globe), Co-Directed Straight (Loud Fridge), and directed the following: Buckets (Diversionary) Game of Tiaras, 10 Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse (Falcon Players), and more.
